We can usually tell if a couple is on a first date and we can usually tell if it’s going well or if it’s going a little south. We see some folks do things right, and we see some folks just miss the mark. We aren’t dating experts, but we sure do see a lot of dates. We’ve made some observations of our own and we think we’ve got 8 tips for first dates some folks will benefit in hearing.
- Wear something you feel confident, yet comfortable in. If you’re not feeling yourself, how do you expect your date get a good feel for the person you are.
- Pop a mint before you pick him/her up, and maybe skip the onion rings this time. Bad breath can be a big turn-off.
- Make sure you have enough money to split the cost. Even though you might be planning to pay (or you’re planning on them to pay) we see a lot of couples split the cost on first dates. You never know what your date may be thinking. Even though we take credit card, bringing a little extra cash can prevent an awkward situation at the register when splitting costs.
- Use your manners. This includes, but not limited to: saying please and thank you, table manners, vocabulary, laughing at dumb jokes, ladies first, holding doors open, etc.
- A little perfume/cologne goes a long way. Don’t overdo it – your date (and the rest of us) will thank you.
- Don’t do all of the talking, but avoid simple yes and no answers too. First dates are about getting to know each other. Be conversational.
- Leave your phone in the car (or at least on silent and off of the table). Nobody wants to hang out with someone who has their nose in their phone the whole time.
- Have fun and don’t be too nervous. Life is short, be yourself.
Cammack is the perfect spot for a first date. It’s inviting, tasty, and fun! At Cammack Station, you have options; you can enjoy eating inside surrounded by historic memorabilia and oldies music. If the weather is nice, you might choose to have your date outside on our peaceful brick patio. You can go for a walk in historic Cammack after and maybe even score a kiss on the cheek during sunset.
We wish you all the luck in the world for all your first date adventures. If you follow these tips we think you’ll do great! Worst case, there’s always ice cream.
As we’ve been wrapping up summer, we’ve been pretty busy and some days it gets hectic in Cammack Station. Hard working employees who can handle the heat in the kitchen (pun totally intended) while maintaining a positive attitude for our customers is a must. Shayla Jenkins is one of our leading examples in this area. You can typically find her up front taking your order and going out of her way to make sure things are right and meeting our standards. She’s a joy to work with and a perfect example for our staff to follow when interacting with customers. Her own words after being told he was “Employee of the Month” just reiterate why we love having her on our team.
“Can I just say how proud I am right now? I’ve worked my tail off here. Not to be noticed, not to get an award, but to make the customers happy. That is my reward, working for a wonderful place like Cammack Station.”
Thanks for the kind words, Shay. We appreciate you and your constant eagerness to learn and positive energy. We are so thrilled to have you here.
We see countless families, couples, and friends come in for burgers and leave with fascinating memories that stick with them for years. We’re honored to be a part of your magical memories and experiences and love when you share them with us!
Sometimes the experiences are parents and children bonding with one another over common interests…and it’s not always food. We recently received a touching story from Brett Yarborough who brought his father on an outing to Cammack.
“…Cammack Station is the last place I was able to go do something with my father. He was a member of an old car club and they had a show at CS. So I flew up, waxed off one of his old cars and we got him out of the nursing home and took him. He really enjoyed the day, it’s a great memory for all of us and a really neat place… Anyhow, he also left me that car when he passed and it is now parked in my garage.”
If there’s anything we love as much as our burgers, it’s vintage cars! We were so touched to hear about Brett’s experience with his dad and hope he remembers him fondly every time he sees that sweet ride.
What memories do you have at Cammack? We’d love to read about them in the comments, or if you have a story of your own, please contact us directly.
Our September Burger of the Month was inspired by all the kids who went back to school in August, including those Ball State ones. We love that our community is buzzing again with sharpened pencils, overstuffed backpacks, high school sports, and Ball State football. With all of the craziness going on in everyone’s lives, it can be pretty convenient to order up a pizza. We don’t disagree…but we don’t serve pizza. So this month, we’ve got a pizza inspired burger for you. It’s, “The Camm-izza Burger.” (See what we did there).
Grab a fork with this one, because you won’t want to leave behind any deliciousness that falls from in between those slices of Texas Toast. We have taken our regular 1/3lb hamburger patty and topped it off with a custom Cammack homemade pizza sauce that includes our very own spice blend and chunks of tomato, mushroom, and sausage. It’s topped off with a healthy sprinkling of melted mozzarella and accompanied with sides of fresh parmesan and of red pepper flakes. Pretty much all of the mouth-watering ingredients you’d find on a delicious deep dish pizza.
How do you like your pizza? Spicy? Add some jalapenos. Like onions? Throw some grilled onions on there too. Ranch with your pizza? Get a side of ranch. The combinations are pretty endless but one thing we are going to just insist on…you’ve got to order a side of fried mozzarella sticks with this burger. You won’t regret this amazing meal and we won’t tell anyone if you don’t share either. Let us know what you think once you’ve tried it.
Summers are pretty fun around Cammack and come August we get a lot of families celebrating back to school. We get pretty busy and this calls for go-getter hard working (but still smiling) people to take care of things, no matter what. That’s Mymesha Garr. Her positive attitude and smiling face are just a couple reason she’s our employee of the month this August.
We asked Mymesha what her favorite part about working at Cammack is and she said, “The customers” (we promise we didn’t pay her to say that). She genuinely loves you all and she gets the whole back to school hootenanny going on this month too. She’s been back at it for a few weeks now at Burris Laboratory School.
If you ask Mymesah what her favorite item on the menu is she’ll tell you that right now it’s this month’s Burger of the Month, The Fried Green Tomato Burger (we didn’t pay her extra to say that either).
August is a month when the kiddos go back to school, Ball State fills back up, the State Fair goes into full swing, and the heat continues on. Summer isn’t over just yet and the front porch and a pitcher of iced tea are probably calling your name. So are our patio and our fried green tomatoes. That’s right, fried green tomatoes! We’re so excited we can barely stand it. We get so many requests for these items throughout Summer. So, during the entire month of August and while these gems are in season, we’ll have friend green tomatoes that can be added to any burger or ordered as a side item.
Since they are in season, it only makes sense that our August Burger of the Month is none other than the Fried Green Tomato Bacon Burger. We pan fry our green tomatoes just like Grandma used to do. This burger features our third pound loose leafed Angus beef patty along with our popular thick cut crispy bacon and grilled onions. It’s topped off with a thick slice of tangy and crispy fried green tomato and it’ll make you want to whip out a deck of cards and chill on our patio all day long so you can have another.
There are so many ways to make this burger your own, but a generous smear of mayo and lettuce does the trick. If you want some extra tang, try thousand island sauce. This baby is so good on our Brioche bun, but just as delicious on our Texas Toast. If you’re looking for more fried green tomatoes, order our featured side of fried green tomato wedges served with our homemade Ranch dressing for dipping. These items are seasonal so as much as we’d love to serve them all year long, we’ll be serving them in August only. Get your fix!

It’s always fun to see young staff members really shine. Joshua Grimes started with us this past March when we reopened and he’s been keeping us all smiling ever since. There is something about his presence that just makes you feel good inside, and our customers feel that too. Maybe it’s his genuine kindness he shows everyone or his big cheerful smile. Either way, people just love him.
Josh is a versatile team member who can step in just about anywhere and that’s just one of the many reasons he’s our employee of the month for July. He’s always willing to learn and go the distance whether he’s back in the kitchen serving up some salads, or helping you pick out that perfect sundae out front.
Let us introduce the Firecracker Burger, July’s burger of the month. This juicy and spicy goodness creates an explosion of taste and heat, almost as if a firecracker of flavor were going off in your mouth. This thing is seriously spicy but seriously delicious. We use our delicious Certified Angus Beef patty and top it off with pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato, and our very own homemade chipotle ranch sauce. Don’t be alarmed by its fire filled ingredients though, because our custom tangy chipotle ranch sauce gives it a cooling and tangy balance. With each bite, you will taste each layer of sweet, spicy, and tangy flavor.
Each month we’ll feature a new burger of the month!
You may have noticed some newer faces around Cammack Station these days. One of those faces is Lisa Brown’s. She’s our employee of the month for June. Even though she has not been here long she has hit the ground running and that’s no surprise with her background in the restaurant business. She’s picked up the Cammack Station way extremely fast, great with customers, Johnny on the spot with everything, always keeps busy and is constantly looking for things to do. Basically, she’s all over the place and is totally involved and loves helping our customers and co-workers. Seriously, we can’t get enough of Lisa and are so happy to have her on our team. Thanks Lisa for being amazing!
Ok, so you may have noticed we didn’t have a “May” employee of the month. We just decided that it makes more sense to list the month that we showcase the employee rather than the month where their awesomeness earned them the status.
